10 Advantages of Having a Wedding at a Hotel

Congratulations if you are one of the many who were recently engaged over the Thanksgiving, Christmas or the New Years holiday! Now with bling on your finger it is time to consider where you may want to hold your wedding celebrations. With a variety of locations available have you thought of the advantages to choosing a hotel? Below are 10 good reasons why a hotel is a good decision.

1. A hotel can design an entire weekend from a bridesmaid luncheon, rehearsal dinner, wedding ceremony, reception and farewell Mr. and Mrs. Breakfast with all the convenience of one location and no travelling around the city from place to place.

2. It is great for the out of town guests. Being able to stay in accommodations and walk from their rooms to the events enables them to save the expense of rental cars. Many hotels like ours are “dog friendly”. If your wedding guest does not feel like they can leave their furry friend at home or in a kennel, they can bring them along!

3. Hotels can offer a discount sleeping room rates for wedding guests. Often even the local guest will stay in the hotel for convenience sake.

4. Some hotels, such as our Sheraton, have a spa on property to give that extra touch of pampering for the bride, her attendants or anyone who wants the sheer pleasure of relaxation.

5. The hotel offers swimming pools and game rooms where guests can entertain themselves during times when the wedding party is busy with such things as the ceremony rehearsal.

6. Your contact at the hotel is one person who will assist you with each planned event, so much easier than having to deal with multiple people.

7. Hotels keep equipment needed for the receptions such as tables, chairs, staging and dance floor. No need to have to rent them from another company.

8. Though the saying is “if it rains on your wedding day it will bring good luck” it can also make for a more stressful situation when you have no back up plan if organizing an outdoor wedding ceremony. A hotel will not leave you stranded waiting for the rain to stop.

9. A complimentary room for the bride or groom is provided by the hotel. A money saving offer!

10. With your guests well-being in mind they can party the night away and not have to worry about driving home at the end of the evening. As a host you have no concerns about their safety.

Association of Bridal Consultants Meeting with Guest Speaker

Have you ever thought how a group of professional wedding vendors would design a ballroom to create the WOW factor? The Sheraton LBVR was privileged to host such an event when the Association of Bridal Consultants held their dinnermeeting here on August 23rd.

Guest speaker Simon T. Bailey was present to speak about his new book “The Vuja de Moment!” As a well renowned inspirational speaker he explained “Vuja de (pronounced voo-ja day) implies seeing everything as if for the first time or better still, seeing everything everyone else sees, but understanding it differently”. He encouraged everyone to realize their brilliance and shift their life, career or business to the next level. Our ballroom was taken to the next level!

It was all about the details from the sash on the back of beautiful chiavari chairs to the paper cutout birds swaying below the huge floral centerpieces. The walls were draped with silver fabric and accented with blue up lighting. Fashionable square tables, specialty linens and chargers were used. The stage was set with formal white furniture.

After dinner we adjourned to an adjoining room with dessert and coffee stations where the color was now hot pink. A corner of this room was set with a book shelf display where Simon Bailey offered to sign his book and have a photograph with each guest. Opposite was a light up bar and another area with occasional furniture. Our ballroom with contemporary style chandeliers was definitely a Vuja de experience!

The Brown & Rogers Wedding

The Sheraton Lake Buena Vista Resort was honored to host our first wedding on August 4th, 2012, following the completion of our newly renovated ballroom!

The Brown & Rogers wedding was a beautiful ceremony and reception to celebrate the coming together of Ericka Brown and Aubrey Rogers. The couple chose to have an elegant theme for their wedding, with shades of lavender and eggplant used in both lighting and décor. The color continued through the beautiful floral arrangements made up of roses and larkspur supplied by local florist, Flowers by Lesley. Soundwave Entertainment provided uplighting for both the ceremony and reception setting a romantic mood. A monogram on the ballroom wall provided that perfect personal touch to the setting.

Many congratulations to the newlyweds and all the vendors that made this a fabulous event, we look forward to many more of these at the new resort!

Welcome to Splash, Sheraton Lake Buena Vista Resort’s official blog!
I will be sharing my expertise in weddings and social events as well as bringing ideas to those planning their own special day. I joined the team at the Sheraton LBVR at the start of 2012 as the Director of Social Events. During my time here I witnessed the resort undergo a major renovation and transformation. Today you see the final product which provides a chic modern venue for all weddings and social events.

A little bit about myself :
The hospitality industry has been my passion leading to a career that spans several decades. My ability to be patient and compassionate are necessary elements compatible with the social market. Though diverse in all aspects of catering my “specialty”, one might say, is the wedding market. Orlando has been my home since 1998 during which time I have worked predominately in that market. I was born in Michigan but lived abroad for over 21 years. It was while living in England I returned to studying at the Wycombe & Amersham College in Hospitality Management before moving back to America in 1992. My hobbies are gardening, cycling, keeping fit, and family time with my two daughters and grandchildren.

One year ago, our renovations were beginning and we were all looking forward to seeing what the outcome would be. Today, we can truly say the results are better than we imagined. And it seems we’re not the only ones – TripAdvisor has even taken note!

Sheraton Lake Buena Vista Resort Rolls Out the Red Capet at Grand Opening

Last week, we hosted 200 of our closest friends at our grand opening event.

We were excited to showcase our transformation so we decided to go all out!

Upon our guests’ arrival, the red carpet was rolled out and photos were taken. After the photos, guests headed to a table of our Signature Zest Cocktails, which were passed by a mermaid!

We were well prepared for hungry guests, as we served Asian salad, lobster ravioli, crab cakes and lamb. The most popular item on the menu (and probably of the night itself) was the sushi. Like we said, we were going for over the top, so we served our sushi on a naked girl!

We originally planned to celebrate outside, though the temperamental weather thought otherwise. Luckily, the skies cleared up and we were able to accommodate outside seating and our cigar roller in the palms courtyard. We were happy the weather perked up when it did. While tours of our new guest rooms would be okay, the rain could have put a damper on our 27 Palms Pool Club tour!

Ultimately, the night was a great success. We had a blast sipping cocktails, eating like kings, and celebrating the reason that brought us all together – our $27 million transformation.

Meet Our Pool Captain!

In order for you to get to know our Pool Captain, Jason Patterson, we decided to ask him a few questions -

SLBVR: What do you think of the resort’s transformation?

JP: The resort is awe inspiring and I am ecstatic to be a part of it. I have been with this property for 12 years and it has come a long way.

SLBVR: What’s your favorite part about being a Pool Captain?

JP: I love seeing the smiles on the kids and parents faces while engaged in the activities. It gives me fulfillment in my job and a sense of accomplishment.

SLBVR: What’s your favorite Pool Club Activity?

JP: My favorite pool activity would probably be X box Kinect (Dance Party 3). The kids and parents seem to really enjoy it, It is fun for the whole family.

SLBVR: What was the most memorable you’ve had as a Pool Captain thus far?

JP: I had a young boy come up to me after doing our balloon stomp activity and personally thank me and tell me that he had a good time. That put a smile on my face and made my day!
